Nottingham Forest

Established: 1865

Greatest team achievement: Winning back-to-back European Cups in 1979 and 1980

Team goal/target: To return Nottingham Forest to the top flight of English football

Nottingham Forest Football Club is renowned as one of the most ground-breaking clubs in English football after being established in 1865.

The club is credited with being the first English side to wear shin-guards and took part in the first match where the referee used a whistle, while also being the first team to adopt the red colour, making the club ‘The Original Reds'.

FA Cup success came in 1898 and 1959 and the club's most successful period arrived in the late 1970s under the stewardship of legendary manager Brian Clough.

Assisted by Peter Taylor, the duo led Nottingham Forest from the Second Division into the top flight, winning the league title in 1978 and following that up with back-to-back European Cup triumphs against all the odds.

During his 18-year tenure, Clough established The Reds at the top of the English game before his retirement in 1993 and ultimate relegation from the Premier League.

Despite the club being unable to return to the heights achieved by Clough and Taylor, they have managed to develop a reputation within the game for nurturing high-quality talent through their excellent academy.

Players such as Michael Dawson, Jermaine Jenas, Andy Reid and Marlon Harewood have come through the club's ranks, with more recently the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Oliver Burke, Karl Darlow and Patrick Bamford all taking their first steps in the professional game at The City Ground.

The 2016-17 season almost heralded a return to the third tier of English football, nine years since they last escaped that level, but a strong core of players developed through the club's ranks helped to preserve their status in the Championship.

An exciting period is on the horizon for Nottingham Forest with new owners Evangelos Marinakis and Sokratis Kominakis taking control in the summer on 2017 and seeking to take the club back among the elite of English football.
